The Feminist Economy Podcast: Building Beyond Austerity

MENA Fem Movement for Economic, Development, and Ecological Justice (MENA Fem) is proud to announce the launch of the inaugural episode of its new podcast, “Austerity Radio.” This series is designed as a platform for critical dialogue on feminist economics and its vital relevance to our region. It engages with the urgent crises of our time, examining them through the lens of neoliberal policies, enduring and emerging forms of colonialism, and deep-seated structural inequities.

Austerity Radio provides a critical space for exploring how feminist economic thought presents concrete alternatives. The series interrogates foundational economic assumptions, centering frequently marginalized values: the ethics of care, collective solidarity, social justice, and the power of locally anchored, community-driven economies. We investigate difficult questions regarding justice and the distribution of resources, actively seeking viable, tangible alternatives to the extractive economic models that deplete both our communities and our planet. This podcast is an open call to radical imagination and collective action, inviting listeners to envision and build economic systems that prioritize people and the planet.

The debut episode, "Decolonizing Economics," is now available.

This episode examines how feminist economics confronts and challenges neocolonial economic models that disproportionately impact the Global South. We explore how this perspective is a vital tool for dismantling economic colonialism and building a future where social justice is inseparable from gender justice.

Guests:
- Dr. Samia Al-Botmeh, Economist and Professor at Birzeit University, Palestine.
- Mayada Hassanein, Feminist Economics Researcher, Sudan.
