Launch of The Kvinna till Kvinna Foundation’s report “The State of Women Human Rights Defenders 2026”
Kvinna till Kvinna conducts a biannual global monitoring of the situation for women’s rights and queer rights activists—their space to act, as well as the threats and hatred they face. The 2026 mapping is based on a global survey with 795 responses from activists in more than 80 countries affected by conflict and fragility.
The State of Women Human Rights Defenders 2026 reveals alarming levels of harassment, defamation, and threats targeting women’s rights and queer rights activists. These threats are primarily driven by governments and authorities, reflecting a global shift towards authoritarianism in which critical voices are silenced. Antigender forces are stronger than ever, and antigender narratives and disinformation not only endanger activists but also fuel instability and reinforce the broader backlash against democracy.
You are warmly invited to a presentation of the main findings, followed by a conversation with activists from Uganda, Ukraine, and Syria on the current state of women’s and queer rights activism worldwide.
